INFO ABOUT PROPOSED NPS BUDGET CUTS
(Budget mtg March 30th - see more info below)

Dear Cabot families,

Have you heard about the huge budget gap NPS is facing for 2026-2027, and of the proposed cuts to current school services in order to close the budget gap?  DETAILS here.

The School Committee is taking its final vote on the budget on Monday 4/6/26. If you are concerned about how these budget cuts will affect your student(s), please consider:

  • Writing letters or calling the Mayor, the School Committee, the City Council, and/or the Superintendent:

schoolcommittee@newton.k12.ma.us
mlaredo@newtonma.gov
nolina@newton.k12.ma.us
citycouncil@newtonma.gov

Phone: 617-796-1000 (8:30 - 5:00 EDT)

  • Attending the next School Committee meeting, Monday 3/30/26, 6:30pm in the Frazier Room (#210) in the Education Center at 100 Walnut Street (your in-person presence is more powerful, but there is also a Zoom option) and/or making a < 3 minute commentary at that meeting
  • Talking to Newton residents who are not involved in NPS--this is important too!

CABOT FAIR PRIZE DRIVE

Doing some February Vacation (or snow day) decluttering? Before those toys "mysteriously" vanish, the Cabot Fair Prize Drive would love to rescue them!

This year’s Cabot Fair is Saturday, June 13th, and our FIRST collection boxes will be out right after February break.

And here’s the big news: this year’s Fair will have twice as many games and activities as last year.Yep--double the fun means we need double the prizes! It’s going to feel like a whole new fair.

So if you’re bravely tackling toy bins, sorting through party‑favor chaos, or realizing you have tickets or passes you won’t use, we can turn those treasures into pure kid joy on Fair Day.

We’re looking for new or unused goodies like:

  • Indoor/outdoor toys
  • Stuffed animals
  • Goody bag/party favors
  • Notepads, unsharpened pencils, dry‑erase boards, mini packs of crayons
  • Sports gear (T‑shirts, hats, jerseys, balls, etc.)
  • Nail polish
  • Mini squishies, tiny food, 3D printed dragons (or any animal, we aren't picky!)
  • Any other fun, prize‑worthy surprises

Every little item helps. Drop donations in the labeled bins at the Cabot side door (Humpty Dumpty side) or the main entrance (Mural entrance). The boxes will be there Monday through Friday (weather permitting) so bring your items at drop-off or pick-up (or any time in between!).

Get ready--with twice the games and activities, this year’s Cabot Fair is going to be an absolute blast!
